Golden River: A Journey Through History

The Yellow River, or Huang He, is the second-longest river in China and has played a crucial role in shaping Chinese civilization. This journey follows the river from its source in the Tibetan Plateau to the eastern coast, exploring historical sites and ancient cities along the way.

In the autumn of 2023, I set out on a historical journey along the Yellow River, from its origin in the highlands of Qinghai to its mouth in Shandong Province, discovering the rich cultural heritage and historical significance of this iconic waterway.

The Journey:

  • Qinghai: The journey began in Qinghai, where I visited the source of the Yellow River and the beautiful Qinghai Lake.
  • Lanzhou: Traveling downstream, I arrived in Lanzhou, a city that serves as a gateway to the western regions of China, where I explored the Yellow River Scenic Area and the White Pagoda.
  • Luoyang: Continuing eastward, I reached Luoyang, a former imperial capital, where I visited the Longmen Grottoes and the White Horse Temple.
  • Jinan: The journey concluded in Jinan, known as the "City of Springs," where I enjoyed the natural hot springs and the Black Tiger Spring Park.
